Schneider updates salary ordinance
The Town of Schneider passed their salary ordinance for Fiscal year 2025 at their town council meeting on March 31.
According to Ordinance 2025-01, the clerk-treasurer will receive a base salary of $1,456.77 every two weeks. Out of that figure, $633.69 of the clerk-treasurer’s salary will come from the General Fund, $411.54 will be taken from the Water Fund and an additional $411.54 will be taken from the Wastewater Fund.
With additional certifications from some professional associations, which include but are not limited to the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers, the International Institute of Municipal Clerks or the Association of Public Treasurers, the money paid to the clerk-treasurer from the Water and Wastewater Funds will increase to $452.39 each for a bi-weekly salary of $1,538.47, according to the ordinance.
The ordinance stated the position of public works assistant is to be paid $16.88 per hour, with the money split equally from the Water and Wastewater Funds. The wages of the utility clerk are set to be $10 per hour, again split equally between the Water and Wastewater Funds.
Jenny Beier is the clerk-treasurer for the Town of Schneider. Beier also serves as the public works assistant and works an hour a day in that role. She said there is currently no utility clerk as the position was created when there was no deputy clerk-treasurer in town.
In regards to paid time off (PTO), salaried employees will receive 10 days per year of PTO, while hourly employees are eligible for four PTO days per year. Paid vacation days are not able to be rolled over to the following year, according to the ordinance.
The ordinance also states there will be a $200 clothing allowance for police, street department, general labor and public works employees per year. This allowance doesn’t roll over into the following year and must obtain authorization prior to purchase.
The motion to adopt the new salary ordinance passed unanimously, with council president David Harris and council members Kevin Gray and Crista Stavros voting in favor the measure.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 28.
