Cedar Lake holds public hearing regarding CDGB funds
Whenever a community applies for Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) funding, one requirement is to have the municipality hold a public hearing to give the residents a chance to speak about how they think the money should be spent.
The Town of Cedar Lake held their public hearing about the 2025 CDGB funds at their town council meeting on April 15. Cedar Lake has been allotted approximately $76,245 in CDBG funds for fiscal year 2025.
CDGB funding is typically used for infrastructure projects, such as those pertaining to streets, sidewalks and utilities among many other items. The funds are dispersed to the eligible communities around September 1 and must be used by no later than July of the following year. The project must be selected by May 5.
Prior to the public comment portion of the hearing, Lake County Redevelopment Commission member and former Cedar Lake town manager Tim Brown addressed council. Brown noted the amount of money available to the town is actually closer to $92,000 with leftover money in a reserve fund.
